First I would like to say that the book is not exactly the most exciting . The characters are rather annoying especially the wife . For a woman who is able to work at home and apparently has a skill set which should give her more self-confidence and be less reliant on her husband for everything.I more or less had most of the book figured out but, wondered why it was so short . I did not know, and it was not advertised on the side that this is only book one of three . Needless to say this agitated me as it was not presented as a trilogy . I don't think the story was interesting and I don't think it was anything new unless you're prepared to spend an additional eight dollars plus tax I wouldn't purchases this book. I'll also be careful to watch for trilogies in the future some are noted this one stood alone as a single book and only after I finish the book did it bring up the other two not happy feel I should get a refund!

The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion A Haunted House Mystery Book 0 (Audible Audio Edition) Roger Hayden Tia Rider Sorensen DBS Publishing LLC Books Reviews
This is not a series but one book chopped up into installments. A book has a full conclusion with a hook to draw tou in and read more. This installment ends just when you finally learn what the problem is. Nothing is resolved. The whole book built up to what was going on and what the character needed to do and then eneded. I deel like I only got 1/4 of a book. And then it ended with the author preaching that this is their living...um no...thats the quickest way to make me stop supporting an author. If you want me to read your books, write better. There were errors and inconsistencies all through the book. I could overlook most of the grammatical ones. Some sentences had words in the wrong order which was a bit confusing sometimes. However the characters were too hard to follow. One minute the huaband is nice and the next he is a jerk. One minute the wife is refusing to talk to him about her extra sensory feelings, the next she is telling random strangers. I couldnt figure out why they were married. No real love was shown between them. And why on earth did she get a gun out to defend against a ghost? She obviously could tell something ghostlike was happening. I don't I will be reading anymore of these installments.
Come with me, into The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion...
I'd started the intro to this review after the prelude read, but things changed for me. So first, the positives on this story It's good. It's interesting and it's written in a way that brings on a natural desire to know more. It didn't hit me with a ton of activity that promised a horrific tale, but gradually built to a crescendo of curiosity The narration gave just enough information to know about Curtis and Mary without being obvious, which helped me maintain my interest. Even the ghostly events were likable and believable.
The book tells of Curtis and Mary, looking to start over. After enduring a tragic event, which is pretty obvious, they move to the quiet town of Redwood. The town is picturesque, but the home they purchased has history. Dark history that everyone in the sleepy, little town knows about but refuse to share. It's not until Mary's been haunted, by something, that she's interested in more than home renovation. She wants to know what took place in the house's 100 year past- but folks won't talk. But a certain ghost does through the pages of a journal.
So I've given the positives on The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion. It's a chilling tale of death, sadness and even a bit of rage from an unsolved massacre. Written with an air of mystery, you're introduced to a trouble woman and her mansion that carries an evil past. Hayden won me, but he also repelled me. Yes, there are a few negatives about this book that may cause me to backtrack on my own words.
First, the editing- what the heck happened?! Words were missing, sentences fizzeled, obstructing understanding and so much predictability. It caused me to wonder if I should even bother with the full novel. I stumbled quite a bit towards the middle of the book, thanks to having to constantly turn back to fill in the blanks. The work involved made The Haunting of Bechdel Mansion a slight disappointment. I just don't know anymore.
What I can say is, for the most part, the novella is a good, quick read. As far a future with the story and it's ending, it's a mystery...

First and foremost, Mr. Hayden, hire an editor and request anonymous beta readers. All three books have atrocious typos and grammar errors. There's even a place in book 1 that starts a sentence, says "change to" half way through, and starts a completely new thought. It's as if book 1 is a first editor's draft.
I may leave spoilers from here.
While the story was good and the characters well done, who ever told you to make it 3 incomplete books and charge complete prices, doesn't want to to be successful. I will never purchase another book from you without full guarantee that it's a complete book. Even a short story is fine, but writing 100 pages and just ending it is not a professional way to write novels, not at the prices you're charging. All three of these "books" should be pulled and rewritten into one cohesive and complete book. Want a prequel or spinoff, write a story about how the "curse" and "treasure" came to be in the catacombs.
You really dropped the ball on the conclusion. The PI just walks off never to be heard from again?! Was there a catacomb? Was there any form of treasure? Was Mary's baby born living? How does the cops handle the piles of ash? Does the town even survive the fallout?
Nitpicking if the city girl is going to have a weapon all the time, obviously trained to use it considering what it takes to get a legal pistol in Chicago, why have her be a damsel in distress? Either use it or lose it, it's a plot drain. These books are obviously designed to be a series, shown by your lake of care with ridiculous cliffhangers, why bother with a complete run down of the last book in the first half of the next? Fluff. Your word count is fluff.
I would have given a 3rd star, but as I listed out all the problems, I'm not sure these deserve 2.
